The Breast CT incorporates an ergonomically designed patient table and a horizontal CT gantry to provide comfortable prone positioning of the patient without compression of the breast tissue, while ensuring full coverage of the whole breast between chest wall and nipple, including the axillary region. A safety mechanism locks the doors when the scanning is in progress, and requires them to be closed before starting the procedure.
The exam table and gantry elevate independently to a height between 1 and 1.5 meters to allow ease and accuracy of positioning and access for minimally invasive procedures such as vacuum assisted needle biopsy. Continuous gantry rotation with slip ring technology will enable contrast enhanced cone beam scanning in the future. Two scans can be run with different elevations to achieve both anterior and posterior coverage. The self shielded design and the dedicated operator’s console eliminate the need for a separate control room and for shielding in the walls.
